In brief: It can be

Depends on the reason for why you have back pain, a herniated disc, spinal stenosis or even facet arthropathy? Then yes an epidural injection can be helpful.
Speak with a pain/spine specialist to determine what is right for you.

In brief: See below

Although many studies document the short-term benefits of epidural steroid injections, the data on long-term effectiveness are less convincing.
Indeed, the effectiveness of lumbar epidural steroid injections continues to be a topic of debate. This is accentuated by the lack of properly performed studies.

The epidural injection can give 1 week to 1 year of relief. Long term relief is unlikely . It may help get through severe pain episodes.
