In brief: Depends

I would recommend checking with your physician first if its safe for you to do.
Remember to stretch, and strengthen your core muscles prior to the season.

if you are snowboarding, you are probably fairly young. People recover better and quicker when they are young. Take it slow and easy to begin and see how much you can do. It would be a shame to give up what you love. Back pain most of the time is an evolving situation, usually not a fixed state. Probably won't do any worse by keeping fit and exercising

In brief: As long as you note

The pain does not interfere with your activities it should be fine.
You may want to consider a more focused exercise program aimed at core stabilization and flexibility with some cross training in terms of cariovascular exercises.
