If a smoker, obese and/or out of shape, this rate could be lower. In general, a return to all activities by 8 to 12 weeks post op. There is a 5% recurrence rate and about a 10% chance of developing back pain over time. There are risks of surgery that should be fully reviewed with you by your surgeon preop.
