In brief: Depends
Spinal cord injury is very complex and the ability to "fix" the problem depends on many things including how badly the nerves have been injured, the age of the patient, the mechanism of injury, etc.
Unfortunately, the overall healing potential of the spinal cord is quite poor and many injuries result in permanent problems.

In brief: Repair?
The body may be able to heal the nerves involved in a spinal cord contusion, or bruise, but if the nerve is severed or more severely damaged it will not be able to heal.
Neurosurgeons use methyprednisolone, a steroid medication to relieve swelling and inflammation. Immobilization, and surgery to remove the pressure on the spinal cord are often needed as well.
