In brief: Yes

The gum tissue is removed in a gingivectomy .
If the area is minor and done with some of the new lasers the discomfort should be very minimal to none. If done with a scalpel there will be more discomfort. The larger the area the more discomfort you will have.

Depends if done with laser or otherwise.
Usually with laser postoperative pain or discomfort is less. Either way it can be controlled with over the counter painkiller.
