In brief: Avoid overuse injury

Most cases of tendinitis of the shoulder involve either the rotator cuff tendons and/or the biceps tendon.
Tendinitis occurs when the tendon in question becomes chronically overloaded. This invokes a local injury response that results in inflammation ("-itis") and the symptom of pain. Good conditioning for endurance and strength and adequate rest between exercise sessions helps prevent tendinitis.
