In brief: Chewing alot

As kids begin teething, they might drool more and want to chew on things.
For some babies, teething is painless. Others may have brief periods of irritability, while some may seem cranky for weeks, with crying jags and disrupted sleeping and eating patterns. Teething can be uncomfortable, but if your baby seems very irritable, talk to your doctor.

In brief: It varies.

Some babies become fussier and agitated.
Some can have fever and you can give baby tylenol (acetaminophen) to relieve it. Some babies like to gnaw at teething ring, that's just fine. For some teething does not bother them a bit, count yourselves very lucky. Just remember, teething is a natural occurance and symptoms will not last long.

In brief: Crying and drooling

Some babies experience excessive drooling, irritability, swelling of the gums, refusal to eat, and gnawing of their fists.
Teething pain can be alleviated by storing small, clean, wet washcloths in the freezer. Roll the washcloth into a 'log shape' and offer it to the baby to gnaw on. The cold will soothe gums and will clean the teeth at the same time.
