There are different degrees of muscle strain. If this injury is causing you to limp then yes i would use crutches until you can walk pain free. Apply ice if the injury is acute. Goal 1 is to obtain pain free motion. Goal 2 strength return. Goal 3 sport specific training to get you back to your level of activity. Think hip labral tear if not progressing.
