How does my doctor find out if I have fractured my thumb or not?

Examination & X-rays. Your physician will exam the finger injured as well as the other fingers, hand and wrist to correlate your complaints of pain with areas found to be tender to palpation, swollen, bruised, and with limited motion or abnormal bony motion away from the joint. Based upon your history nd exam findings, appropriate x-rays will be requested to determine whether or not you have a fracture.
