In brief: Ankle fracture

Oblique fibula fracture is an unstable fracture.
If there is no displacement then non weightbearing cast and crutches should be adequate. If there is displacement then surgery is required, to prevent deformity or loss of function.

In brief: Stable Fx will heal

Effective fracture healing requires a healthy stable environment both locally at the fracture site and systemically (good nutrition).
Simple immobilization (casting) with or without a reduction to realign malpositioned bones often suffices. Unstable fractures, for which a stable acceptable reduction cannot be obtained, may require surgery with placement of pins plates, and screws to allow healing.
