If you run, swimming or weight training using machines that allow your calf to "be at rest" will work well. When you've recovered, those calf muscles that have weakened can be "persuaded" to re-bulk through targeted activity.

Rehab: begin gentle ankle range of motion (alphabets with toes). Progress to regular calf stretching after 1 wk. May initiate two legged calf raise. After 2 wks, single leg calf raise/leg press. > 3 wks - eccentric heel drops (calf raise on noninjured side, come down on injured side). Fitness - try pool therapy - swim/run using jogger's belt.
