What does the scar from gallbladder surgery look like?

Depends on surgery. In all cases the scar is not that bad. Usually the gallbladder is removed with a camera and othe small long instruments placed in the abdomen through 3 1-2cm incisions, but it sometimes is done through one larger 6 inch incision below the right rib. It some specialized centers it can be done through the vaginia or mouth/stomach resulting in no external scars.

I had open gallbladder surgery 3 months ago and part of my scar is still not healed. Sometimes it bleeds a little too. Why?

Uncertain. I cannot tell why without seeing it. Seems unlikely that an incision would not be fully healed at 3 months, unless there are underlying health issues or Prednisone use. Also seems unlikely that there would be irritation from a suture this long, but it is possible. Please see your surgeon for an evaluation. Read more...

If I had gallbladder surgery four weeks ago if it still considered a sugical site or is it a surgical scar?

Both. The surgical site is just the location where the surgery was performed. This will always be the same as your surgical location neither moves nor changes. Surgical scar is what forms after surgery. This too will always be the same since scars always occur (but some smaller and some larger.). Hope this helps. Read more...

My husband had gallbladder surgery 2 months ago and now he has a huge lump under the scar he had to have the more invasive surgery about a 7 in scare?

Incisional hernia. Occasionally a hernia will develop at the site of a surgical scar. These are called incisional/ventral hernias. A seroma under the skin is also a possibility. Okay to check with your doc for diagnosis. An ultrasound of the abdominal wall should make the diagnosis. Despite the set back, there are therapies for his problem. Absent a fever, or vomiting, he can be evaluated as an outpatient. Read more...

Have lump always thought was internal scar tissue from gallbladder surgery 6 yrs ago. This a.M, there was bruise over it I can't explain. Do I worry?

Internal scar tissue. Dont present as lumps. You didnt state where exactly is the lump. If its at the site of incisio. Then it could be an incisional hernia. Bruising may or may not be related to it. If the lump is tender to touch now then you need to contact your physician soon as it may be an incarcerated hernia. If its soft, and non tender then you can follow up with your physician to further assess it. Read more...

What will doctor do during gallbladder surgery follow up? After removing bandages, will he put anything on incision scars? There's no stitches/staples

Not likely. He will check the wound to be sure it is healing without infection or herniation. He will ask some questions regarding whether you are having diarrhea as some folks do after gb surgery. If so there is a medicine that can be given to treat the diarrhea. Should be a short visit. He will then tell you when he releases you to full activity. Read more...
