In brief: You are At Risk

Most of the risk of developing amd is genetically determined, meaning that it is inherited from parents.
A smaller risk is conferred by environmental factors such as smoking. There are genetics tests available in many retina offices which can determine your risk with a mouth swab.

In brief: It's a risk factor

You may have an increased genetic risk for the disease.
There is no prevention at this time. The best defense is regular eye exams by your eye doctor. If caught early on an eye exam then you can have better counseling and treatment if necessary. Consider using amsler grid testing at home.
