In brief: Low Glycemic Index

Great question! while there are no magic foods, normal weight and a healthy, low glycemic index diet are associated with higher fertility, while excess weight and an unhealthy high glycemic index diet are associated with higher rates of infertility.
For a helpful reference check out the fertility diet, an easy to read book by harvard researchers dr chavarro and dr willett.

In brief: Dairy if irregular?

1 study says a daily high-fat dairy serving (full fat milk, yogurt, ice cream) may help women who have irregular periods.
Weight loss may increase your chances if overweight. If you're ttc at 38 see a fertility specialist (reproductive endocrinology and infertility or rei md) to get checked out and to increase your fertility. Low egg supply (diminished ovarian reserve) may be an issue in late 30's.
