Can normal eye tests show up if someone suffers from glaucoma?

In brief: Complicated

No single test is 100 percent for diagnosing glaucoma.
As such, some tests may be normal (ie normal field of vision) while other tests (such as tests of eye structure) can show damage. Glaucoma involves damage to the eye - so if all the tests are normal and the optic nerve looks healthy then by definition that person doesnt have glaucoma (though they may be at high risk for getting it later on).

In brief: Yes

Even in patients with high eye pressures, the tests can be normal for years, but studies show that 10% eventually do develop glaucoma.

In brief: Depends

You can have a normal eye pressure and still have glaucoma .
This is called normal tension glaucoma. You can also have a normal visual field but have early glaucoma evidenced by glaucomatous damage to the optic nerve . Pre perimetric.

In brief: Absoluteg.ly

Glaucoma is a slowly progressive disease at first.
And the testing eequipment available today can only detect when at least 5-10% of the nerve has been damaged. So, you can have a perfectly normal glaucoma test and still have mild damage occurring.

In brief: Yes

Not all tests can detect glaucoma, especially at early stages.
Usually a combination of tests correlating structure and function of the optic nerve along with a complete eye exam can help find glaucoma even with a normal test.
