Eclampsia. Eclampsia is an acute and life-threatening complication of pregnancy, characterized by the appearance of tonic–clonic seizures, usually in a patient who has developed pre-eclampsia. (pre-eclampsia and eclampsia are collectively called hypertensive disorder of pregnancy and toxemia of pregnancy.).
Seizure in pregnancy. Eclamsia is a disease in pregnancy caused by high blood pressure which leads to a seizure. We monitor your blood pressure during your prenatal careen order to prevent this life threatening disease.
Pregnancy. Some pregnancies are afflicted by preeclampsia, a condition of widespread endothelial malfunction under the influence of placental products. In essence, the placenta never implanted well in the maternal uterus; as the fetus grows the placenta becomes increasingly stressed to provide adequate nutrients to the fetus and the maternal pressures increase. When the disease is severe, convulsions occur.
Hypertension. Pre-eclampsia is a constellation of symptoms that arise during pregnancy. It is most likely caused by substances secreted by the placenta causing damage to maternal blood vessels. As a result, blood pressure rises, protein is noted in the urine, liver enzymes may also rise. The only cure is delivery and this is indicated if symptoms are severe.
Blood pressure +. Preeclampsia is the combination of high blood pressure and increases urine protein that can happen in the latter part of pregnancy. Depending on how severe someone's case is, it can require bed rest at home or in the hospital. Severe cases can cause poor fetal growth, decreased platelet counts, worsening liver function, and decreased urination. It can also causes severe maternal symptoms.
Pregnany condition. Pre-eclampsia is a constellation of symptoms that can occur during pregnancy. The most common symptom is high blood pressure. You can also have protein in the urine and other blood abnormalities. It can be life threatening and proceed to eclampsia (seizures). The cure is delivery.
Noen are specific! This is more a clinical diagnosis. Tests that are used look for excess protein in urine, but the picture is this. Typically patients show signs of pregnancy-induced hypertension and proteinuria prior to the onset of the hallmark of eclampsia, the eclamptic convulsion. Other cerebral signs may precede the convulsion such as nausea, vomiting, headaches, and cortical blindness. This is the extreme.
Treated by Doctor. Eclampsia is seizures brought on by pregnancy induced hypertension. It is usually treated with IV Magnesium Sulfate and delivery of the infant. It can sometimes occur postpartum. Your doctor will follow you afterward to make sure you do not have persistent hypertension. Preeclampsia can be helped by bedrest.
Delivery. Delivery and control of seizures.
Follows pre eclamsia. Eclampsia means toxemia with seizures in a pregnant woman with out any preexisting brain condition. It is avery serious condition.
Headache, high BP.. Headache, vision disturbance and hypertension are common.
Briefly.... ..Elevated blood pressure, leg edema beyond very mild, very brisk reflexes are a few signs but should be evaluated by your gynecologist. If you think you or a friend are developing pre-eclampsia see your gynecologist very, very soon. It can be extremely serious and a danger to the mother and unborn child.
My daughter has a condition called pre-eclampsia. What causes this and any reremedies? I know it's serious.
Pre eclampsia. The cause is unknown and there is no known treatment however, your doctor should be closely monitored for high blood pressure, protein in the urine and possible seizures.
