In brief: Depends on the cause

Ibuprofen is an excellent NSAID which will help reduce pain and swelling caused by inflammation- but you should first see an ophthalmologist to determine the cause of the pain and because pain relief alone may delay the diagnosis and cause more damage if antibiotics, antihistamines, or steroids are required to correct the underlying problem.

In brief: Will likely help

But a painful swollen eye needs a diagnosis by a physician.

In brief: Maybe

Ibuprofen works fairly well as an analgesic.
Just make sure there isn't any acute problems that needs treatment now. Best to be seen by your ophthalmologist just to make sure.
