What is the purpose of a knee brace after a total knee arthroplasty?

In brief: Knee brace after TKA

It may provide stability if there is an mcl or lcl issue, or if there is some muscular imbalance.
Generally braces aren't used postop unless there is a good reason to do so.

In brief: Not typically needed

After a total knee arthroplasty or replacement surgery, a knee brace is usually not needed.
Only for the first few days will the knee feel very weak and unstable- during this short period of time a brace or immobilizer may help. Getting the muscles that stabilize your knee healthy and strong after surgery is more important than the use of any type of brace.
