Is it normal to get red and itchy eyes when wearing contact lenses for more than 8 hours?

In brief: Contact lenses

It may not be "normal" but it sure is common.
Contact lenses can irritate the eyes due to dryness, allergy or poor material or fit. Sometimes contact lens intolerance can develop. It is important to have the underlying condition treated(allergy etc.) and to be sure that the fit, material and handling are all optimized and to minimize use time if possible.

In brief: No

This indicates some kind of irritation due to contact lens wear or contact lens solution.
Could be dry eye, or allergies, poor fit, contact lens overwear, not cleaning properly, etc. Check with your eye care provider for evaluation and treatment.
