During the polio epidemics prior to the salk vaccine, many cases occurred which were asymptomatic, of which some did not cause any disturbance neurologically, and others were "latent" causing disturbance in older age-- "post-polio syndrome".
Of course probably a large minority of infected persons became paralyzed and/or died soon after infection.
