The same day. You can take a shower right away as along as you are alert, oriented and able to stand on your own without feeling dizzy.
Alert. You should be able to take a shower when you are coherent, if you have been sedated. If you haven't been sedated then you can do it more quickly as you'll be awake and alert so it'll be safe.
