since smoking usually starts to ease anxiety as does drinking alcohol, finding the cause of anxiety, albeit a life-long pursuit, should accompany smoking cessation. Physical cravings of nicotine will abate but may be replaced by another craving (eating) and stress associated with non-smoking is a significant psychologic risk factors in certain individuals. A psychologist or a hypnotist may be helpful if smoking cessation provokes excess anxiety/stress. The physical effects smoking has on the lungs is its primary danger and reason to quit.
