Can my wrists and hands hurt worse after wearing a brace for carpal tunnel?

In brief: Possible!

At best, braces may help about a third of carpal tunnel patients, and many braces do not fit well or have improper angulation.
Best to see a certified hand therapist and have the brace refitted. If this fails to help, consider other options.

In brief: Can be

If the splint is too tight if there is an arthritic joint and you really dont have cts or have arthritis too check the fit of the splint, dont make it too tight especially at night, make sure it is not hitting your palm or thumb the wrong way.
