If you have asthma from allergies, could an allergy pill relieve the asthma?

In brief: Possibly...
...But not an over-the-counter antihistamine.
A leukotriene inhibitor such as montelucast (singulair) is more effective against asthma.

In brief: Not exactly
Singulair (montelukast) & Accolate block the effects of leukotrienes.
Zyflo inteferes with the leukotriene production. Theophylline is an older drug for asthma that is sometimes useful. All of these medications treat asthma triggered by allergies as well as asthma not so triggered. Most allergists & pulmonologists prefer inhaled corticosteroids & long-acting bronchodilators for efficacy, safety & ease of use.

In brief: Depends what u mean
Antihistamines will not treat active wheezing, but can be useful to prevent an asthma attack.
For example, a cat-allergic person will find that their asthma won't bother them as much when they are visiting a home with cats if they take an antihistamine such as zyrtec (cetirizine) two hours before the visit.

In brief: No, but
Allergy pills are usually antihistamines.
While histamine is a chemical released in the airway during asthma, antihistamines have not been found to be very useful. Antihistamines, especially the non-sedating long-acting ones, may help control allergic nasal symptoms that often accompany asthma. These newer antihistamines do not dry the airway & are safe to use when asthma is present.
