In brief: Causes inflammation

There is an old saying that all health problems begin in the gut; while simplistic, it is often true.
Intestinal imbalances result in increased intestinal permeability, sometimes called "leaky gut syndrome" which can trigger systemic inflammation, cause food allergies & nutrient deficiencies & toxic overload. See http://www.Huffingtonpost.Com/leo-galland-md/do-you-have-leaky-gut-syn_b_688951.Html.

Thus, having intestinal imbalances can lead to systemic inflammation that could cause or aggravate many chronic degenerative diseases such as arthritis. Also, standard treatments for degenerative diseases can cause leaky guts. Unfortunately most doctors have little if any knowledge about these important connections, though there is good scientific support. See http://www.mdheal.org/leakygut.htm

In brief: Inflammation

Certain inflammatory diseases affect the intestines as well as joints.
Diseases like chrohns and ulcerative colitis can affect the joints. Also many of the drugs used to treat inflammatory bowel diseases are also used to treat inflammatory arthritis.
