In brief: It depends

The treatment of clavicle fractures has evolved quite a lot over the last decade.
The orphic peaty community used to believe that everyone did well as long as their fracture healed. We now know that is not the case. There are many instances where surgery is needed to realign the fracture fragments. That being said, a number of fractures are still managed in a sling, without surgery.

In brief: Depends

Decision how to treat clavicle depends on a number of factors.
Fractures that would likely not heal should be fixed acutely. Fractures with significant deformity may benefit from surgery. Majority of minimally displaced fractures heal without surgery.

In brief: Sling.

Typically, using a sling for comfort is all that is needed.
However, certain patterns of fractures may require more care. Please see a non- surgical sports medicine specialist, who can make that determination.
