Orthopedic Surgery
In brief: Depends
Depends on what where # of pieces & alignment .
So many variables . The bone itself will heal in 6 wks usually. However if 1 want the hand/ finger/ third 2 function well surgery may b needed. If fx is an avulsion by a ligament , mal rotated, angulated or has many pieces which makes them unstable , they can shorten angulate & rotate. Of left alone most heal tho function can be bad. C hand surgeon.
