Ankle fracturesprain. Both have pain and a history of injury. A fracture is most commonly confirmed on x-rays.
Varies. Symptoms of a broken ankle and a sprained ankle are very similar. They both include pain, swelling, bruising, and limited walking. A broken ankle has the additional symptom of severe pain on weight bearing and thus typically one with a broken ankle will not put any weight on that foot or ankle.
Symptoms. Both may present with swelling, pain, ecchymosis (black and blue color changes), and difficulty walking or putting weight on the ankle. An x-ray is useful to determine the diagnosis.
