In brief: Usually many months+

Osteoarthritis (oa) is a disease of wear and tear on joints.
It usually takes a while to develop. Injury or overuse and overload can increase the rate at which it forms. Anti-inflamatories can slow it down as can weight reduction, activity modification and pt/ strengthening exercises for supporting structures. It may take many months to years before oa will show up as symptoms or on an x-ray.
