How long do you have to avoid driving after meniscus tear surgery?

In brief: Right side or left?
If it is your left knee, you can probably drive very shortly after surgery as long as you are not taking narcotic.
If it is your right knee, it will be at least a week before you can drive, as it would be risky to have to hit the break too soon after surgery, and you would be a risk to yourself and everyone else on the road.
