What are good alternatives to hip replacement?

Therapy. Unfortunately, there are few good alternatives to severe arthritis of the hip. Medications, therapy and activity modification may help symptoms, but the only definitive treatment is usually surgery.
Multiple. Weight loss, exercise, muscle strengthening, increasing flexibility, anti-inflammatory medications, cortisone injections and a cane are all good nonsurgical treatment options. Surgically, sometimes we recommend hip arthrosocopy or hip resurfacing instead of or as a delay tactic prior to hip replacement.
