In brief: Nephron -> urethra

Each kidney contains about 1 million nephrons which are the functional units.
They filter blood via the glomeruli & reabsorb water, elcrolytes & other necessary substances in tubular portion of nephron beyond glomerulus.Neprons drain into collecting ducts which drain into kidney collecting system (calyces & pelvis) funnel urine into ureter, thence in bladder for storage and empties via urethra.

In brief: See answer

The kidney receives blood from the heart through renal arteries.
The arteries subsequently form several arterioles ad capillaries and microscopic sub units called glomerulii which are essentially like specialized filters which process the blood and waste and excess salts etc enter a tubule and many tubules join together to form a ureter and urine is stored into the bladder and released when you go.
