In brief: Indirectly

An important aspect of ic is that inner lining of bladder may be damaged, thus bacteria gaining access to bladder can more easily attach or penetrate bladder lining.
These bacteria can only be eliminated by antibiotics.Normal bladders have an intrinsic defense mechanism consisting of a protective coating to bladder lining which makes it more difficult for bacteria to attach or penetrate.

In brief: No

Ic is a chronic inflmmatory state of the bladder.
It is a non-infectious process although an previous UTI may have provoked the onset of ic. If one is getting frequent utis, then an evaluation is needed to determine if there are other causes for the UTI such as scarring, retaining of urine, etc.

In brief: Not really

Interstitial cystitis does not cause a bladder infection but it can make you more likely to get one.
