In brief: Arteriovenous fistul

It is an arteriovenous fistula.
It is a surgical connection of an artery and a vein. Once "mature", it is where they insert the needles for the blood to flow to the dialysis machine. It can take 3 months or so from "creation" until it is ready to use.

In brief: Your lifeline!

Dialysis access is an entrance way into your bloodstream that lies completely beneath your skin.
The av fisutla is usually in your arm, and allows blood to be removed and returned quickly, efficiently, and safely during dialysis or, less commonly, for other procedures requiring frequent access to your circulation. Creating the access portal is a minor surgery connecting an artery to a vein.
