If i'm under the care of a nephrologist, does that mean I won't see my family doctor anymore?

In brief: Absolutely Not

Once you start peritoneal dialysis (pd), you will now have a team of doctors.
The nephrologist will handle your medical care associated with pd. However you will still need annual check ups from your pmd and teh ability to drop in when you may develop a cold.

In brief: CKD Care

It is a very good idea to maintain a primary care relationship with your family doctor. The nephrologist will provide special care and will see you frequently but you will still need the family doctor for check ups and other care.

In brief: Tag team approach

This is a good question to ask him/her. Some nephrologists assume all primary care issues for their dialysis patients.
Others work in a team. You can discuss with your nephrologist what issues he/she will manage exclusively (e.g. Dialysis, anemia), cooperatively (e.g. Hypertension) or not at all (e.g. Yearly exam, prostate, colonoscopy).
