In brief: Many, but 3 big ones

All cancers are identified by the types of cells that they come from. There are many different types of skin cells, therefore there are many different types of skin cancers.
There are three main ones, though. Squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma, and melanoma.  melanoma is the most dangerous, but basal cell more common.

In brief: Many...

Cancer is unregulated proliferation of cells as a result in mutations in genes that regulate the cell cycle.
Thus in theory, all the different cell types in the skin can potentially transform into cancer. The most common are basal cell and squamous cell skin cancers. The most common potentially fatal skin cancer is melanoma, transformed from the pigment producing cells, the melanocytes.

If caught and treated early, all types of skin cancer are curable. Melanoma is the only one which metastasizes early.

In brief: Several

There are several different types of skin cancers.
Squamous cell the skin begins as a small nodule and as it enlarges the center becomes necrotic and sloughs and the nodule turns into an ulcer. Basal cell patients present with a shiny, pearly nodule. Melanoma patients have an irregularly appearing pigmented lesion.
