In brief: Common problem

Many have an umbilical hernia.
If the defect is big enough, often the intestinal covering called the omentum, which is fat, will slip into this defect. If it is large enough it won't cause a problem, which sounds like your case. If the blood supply gets cut off because it's tight, then it can cause pretty significant pain. If you're worried have a general surgeon check it out.

In brief: Omenum

Sometimes the omentum ( fat apron in the belly) get stuck in the belly button hernia, ( umbilical ) if you have pain or discomfort get it repaired just small piece of fat not dangerous, if bowel enters , yes it is dangerous, .

Any umbilical should be repaired on diagnosis. It is an outpatient procedure commonly performed by general surgeons, using prosthetic mesh.

In brief: Umbilical Hernia

It is a small bulge at the belly button containing fat from within the abdomen.
It is caused by a defect or weakening in the fascia, a thick layer of the abdominal wall. It is most dangerous if intestines are contained within the hernia sac, which does not seem to be the case. If the hernia causes you pain, then you should see a general surgeon to have it fixed. The surgery is very common.
