In brief: A variety
Most average newborns will comfortably fit in 0-3 month sized clothing.
If you are expecting a full term baby, buy one or two cute "newborn" sized outfits (typically 5lb to 8lb) for that first coming home photo but your money will be better invested in clothing that s/he will grow into (quickly!).

In brief: Newborn Size
Most retailers of baby clothes will have an infant size.
There are also premature infant sizes, as these may be necessary if your child is premature or significantly small for age. Please discuss this with your physician as well.
