In brief: Depends

Rectal (i assume) carcinoids are all neuroendocrine cancers per pathology testing.
However, there are subtypes based on degree of aggressiveness of the cancer. Aggressive carcinoids (high-grade) as well as non-aggressive carcinoids (low & intermediate grade) can be seen and differ in their tendency to spread to other organs.

In brief: Carcinoid Tumor

Ano rectal carcinoid tumors are rare - only 1-2 % of ano rectal cancers.
Small ones can be treated endoscopic ally, larger ones require rectal excisional surgery. Carcinoid s arise from neuroendocine cells, which are similar to nerve cells. Tumors less than 1.0 cm rarely metastasize and are cured by excision.
