In brief: Pneumonia?

If you are referring to bacterial pneumonia, treated with antibiotics.
It depends on the presentation of the patient, ongoing medical problems, clinical exam, and x-ray. If viral pneumonia say in the peak flu season, we may try antibiotics but may just need supportive care, such as fluids, tylenol, (acetaminophen) and rest. Hope this helps.

In brief: Type of infection?

Really depends on the type of infection.
1: virus infection : usually do nothing (there are exceptions) 2: bacteria : antibiotics (choice depends on the type of bacteria) 3: fungus : depends on type of fungus, but you use anti-fungal medicines.
