In brief: Yes

Casting for 6-8 weeks and therapy works for most.
Slightly higher re- tear rates without surgical repair. But, no risk of surgery.

In brief: Sometimes

It depends on how bad the rupture is.
If its a partial rupture in can be heal without surgery by immobilizing the foot and ankle for about 6 weeks. If its a complete rupture it may require surgery.

Most complete tears will need to be repaired to get the best result and prevent reinjury
