Asparagus contains a sulfur precursor which those with an inherited enzyme convert into a mercaptan, which is a sulfur containing compound with that odor so characteristic.
This is present in about 40% of persons; 60% will not make this and the odor is not present in them. There is no physiological reason for either of these condtions so it is not a problem except for the smell.
