A heightened sense of smell can occur in various neurological diseases, tumors in the brain and low grade sinus infections.
Some medications might cause an altered sense of smell as well. I would seek help from an ENT specialist to help sort out this problem. You may need to obtain and MRI to assess the brain and the area where the smell fibers come into the nose.
