In brief: Melanoma screen

All individuals with a family history of melanoma should be screened at least once per year for signs of early melanoma.
Melanoma is 99 percent curable if found early, whereas if found late carries a very high mortality rate.

In brief: Genetic testing

There is genetic testing available for a form of familial melanoma which is also associated with pancreatic cancer (cdkn2a).
Best thing to do is to speak to a genetic counsellor if you have a strong family history of melanoma. However, the most important thing to do is to see a dermatologist on a regular basis for complete skin checks. Remember early detection can=cure.
