In brief: Depends on diet

Your personal needs for calcium supplementation depends on how much calcium you are getting in your diet.
Vitamin d is needed to absorb calcium so you need to make sure you are not vitamin d deficient. Prednisone taken for more than 8 weeks has been shown to contribute to bone density loss. See your doctor and ask if he/she would recommend getting a DEXA scan and vitamin d levels checked.

In brief: Calcium-prednisone

To prevent osteoporosis from chronic prenisone therapy, more than calcium is required.
A healthy diet, plus supplements of vitamin d3, good sources of calcium from diet and supplements, magnesium, zinc, boron and strontium all help. Active weight bearing exercise is important.
