There are some people that are very salt sensitive.
... And too much salt can cause fluid retention/ water weight gain- as well as effect blood pressure. The other issue is what foods are associated with salty... Fries, chips, etc.... These do effect weight! happy new year!

This is usually a transient event and shoud not be confused with the weight gain that results from consuming excessive calories. After bariatric surgery extra salt is actually beneficial.
