In brief: Set sensible goals

Successful dieting requires that a person stick to a plan for months or years, so easier goals & small milestones are good.
He must be happy with the foods he gets to eat, so severe calorie restriction is usually unsuccessful. One can cut back on calories enough to lose 1-2 pounds a week, and he will be more likely to stay with that modest type of plan. One-two pounds a week is 50-100 pounds/year!

Agree, but also need to increase physical activity to increase spending calories. Activity also helps to increase muscle mass, at expense of fat mass, so one increases calorie spending at the same weight. Leaner heavier weight is generally better than flabbier lower weight.

Agree, increased activity and increased lean muscle mass are essential to successfully losing weight but more importantly successfully keeping it off!

In brief: Mini Trampoline

Mini trampoline cost $35 in aldi stores.
It is a best workout right inside your home - jump either 20 minutes or 200 counts to maintain a routine. Build on this routine.
