Jogging, any form of cardiovascular exercise for that matter, is great for weight loss.
You can only eat so little, so adding exercise like jogging allows you to eat good quantities of healthy low-fat foods while still losing weight by helping your body metabolize the calories more efficiently and burn calories through the extra energy expenditure. Good idea!

Make sure to clear this first with your doctor to not aggravate any degenerative joint disease of your back, hip, knee, ankle or foot first. Go slow, maybe start with walking more, and treadmill to get the circulation going in your extremities, and buy the proper running shoes to protect & support your feet and balance, wear orthotics to keep your spine supported and in neutral alignment.
