In brief: Rest/ice/compress/PT

Initial rest in a relaxed position to prevent further injury along with ice and compression (ace wrap) will hel control pain and swelling and allow for early healing.
Once pain is tolerable, physical therapy is indicated to maximize return of motion and strength. If the mucle injured is the quadriceps (top of the thigh), immobilization in maximal flexion (knee bent) is indicated to limit stiffness.
