In brief: Wt-loss Dr. can help

Sibutramine (meridia, reductil), which acts in the brain to decrease appetite, was withdrawn from the United States and canadian markets in 2010.
Orlistat (xenical) was approved by the fda for long term use. A weight-loss doctor (bariatrician) can evaluate to help decide if orlistat should be used, and to help with recommending non-medicinal types of treatment.

Two new weight loss products were recently approved by the FDA, but both have many restrictions & side effects. As Dr. Kwok points out, a bariatrician can discuss options. Best weight loss method is healthful eating, reduced calorie intake, & exercise to burn off excess weight.

In brief: New drugs approved

Fda recently approved 2 new drugs that should be available by prescription only, in late 2012/early 2013.
Qnexa consists of the two prescription drugs Phentermine and topiramate. Belviq® (lorcaserin hci) behaves as an appetite suppressant which helps patients lose weight by essentially causing them to feel less hunger sensations. You should see a weight loss specialist for more information.
